If you were asked whats the one thing that gets people to their goals; most people would probably say motivation..
But is motivation alone really enough?
The thing with ‘motivation’ is that it doesn’t seem to be reliable at all times.
That’s because there’s two types of motivation; internal and external.
Internal is when we create the motivation within ourselves to achieve our goals, this type is not as common amongst most people.
Versus externally seeking motivation which isn’t long lasting.
Most people aren’t familiar with the different types of motivation.
So they just seek it rather than create it for themselves.
When we seek motivation externally, some days it just isn’t quite there, and thats ok!
We’re humans, we’re not supposed to have great and highly motivated days every single day.
We must take the good days with the bad days, and make the most of them with or without motivation.
So, if motivation isn’t the number one answer.. what is?
Well the answer I would say is Clarity..
It’s becoming clear on what you want to achieve, why its important to you, and how you will reach your goals.
The first step of gaining Clarity towards your goals is to actually be clear on what your goals are. Crazy right? Not really.
It’s very common for people not to know what their goals are because they haven’t spent the time to sit down and find clarity
Here’s a few techniques that you can start implementing into your life.
Start with a sheet of paper and write down all areas in your life that you want to improve, and create goals for them.
(social, business, personal, sport etc.)
Think about 3-5 goals for each area of life. These can be goals both big or small, but be specific when writing them down.
Once you have your goals written down, you’ve completed the first step!
Now its time to engrave them into you, and make them apart of you..
By becoming CLEAR on why they’re important to you.
This is very important for those tough days where extrernal motivation just isn’t enough.
When adversity arises, your WHY must be strong enough to get you through.
So it’s time to make our WHY and set it in stone.
Grab another sheet of paper and start by writing down 20 reasons why the goals you wrote down are important to you.
Once completed, sit with your list and resonate with each one.
Take a moment to feel the attachment to each and every reason you wrote down.
Now go through your list and cross off 5-10 at a time, until your left with the 3-5 of the most important reasons WHY.
This is your WHY!
Finally, we’re onto the last step, and thats becoming clear on how you will reach your goals.
Now lets make it clear that this doesn’t mean once we find the clarity, thats it’s set in stone.
It’s very important to have an idea and a plan, but sometimes we have to take different steps from what we thought along our journey to our goals.
On your goal sheet, write down some of the ideas, people that could help, and actions you would need to take in order to achieve each specific goal.
Think about these as your success tools. With these tools, achieving your goals becomes much easier..
So what have we done by finding clarity?
Well we’ve essentially created motivation for ourselves internally, which is far more powerful than seeking motivation externally, as it’s only temporary.
Clarity is the key to great success in many ways.
Without it we’re like a chicken running around with its head cut off, aimlessly running with no idea what we’re doing or where we’re going.
Find clarity and find yourself becoming a Motivation Manifesto.
